Jason and the Argonauts

I think Jason fits very well in the "cycle of the hero" because...

Birth/home: His father was the wise king, Iolcus but his throne was taken over from Jason's uncle, Pelias and Iolcus was prisoned so Jason was about to be murdered right after the birth but Jason's mother hid him in the cave of Chiron.

Elixir: Jason's elixir was the golden fleece. Jason has to get it to get back his throne.

Helpers: The Helpers of Jason are the Argonauts. The Argonauts are the group of talented people who helps Jason to get the golden fleece.

Call to adventure: when Jason grew older, he goes to Pelias to get his throne. Pelias told Jason that if he brings golden fleece then Pelias is going to give him back the throne.

Helpers/amulet: The helpers and amulet of jaon are Chiron and Chiron's sword. They gave him strenght and hope to accomplish his quest.

Tests: Jason and his argonuats had many dangerous test during the journey. For examples, they had to go through the clashing rocks, fighting with fire breathing bulls and the guard of golden fleece, dragon. All the tests that Jason and Argonauts have gone through made them stronger and gave them courage.

Climax/Final battle: Jason had final battle with Medea when she was sending jason's Argonauts in to the underworld. With Chiron's sword which Jason believed, he defeated medea. The Argonauts got out of underworldd and accomplished their quest.

Return/Flight: After the dangerous quest, Jason and his Agonauts go back to Palies and get back his proper throne.

There are very many different stories of Jason and the Argonauts myth. All the stories have differences. In the video, Medea was on evil side which tries to kill jason and he Argonauts but in some myth, Medea becomes a very important woman to jason who helps him to go through all kinds of dangerous tests. In some of the stories, Jason is very weak but Jason in the video was very strong and courageous hero. I think these myth changed in many different ways when in moved mouth to mouth. however, they all contins same ideas that Jason goes on a journey with Argonaut to find back his throne.

Some people believe that [Jason and the Argonauts] is real. However, I don't think the myth Jason and Argonauts is real because there is no such creatures as fire breathing bull and dragon so It is very hard to say that it is real but it's not hundread percent wrong because it has many evidence to back it up.

-Mountain Pelion exist.
-The caves are real
-The time that the myth happened is same as the Trojan war which is a real history.
-Artifacts are discovered from Archeologist.
-The ship which Jason and the Argonauts rode on exist.
-Georgia is Land of Golden Flecee.
- The Cliff where Lemnian women killed men exist.
-Where the first quest took place is Island of Lemnos.
-sacred cave drawing of Jason exist.

The main theme of Pandora and Orphan boy, Curiosity

The main theme of Pandora, a Greek myth, and Orphan Boy, an African myth, is curiosity. These myths warn humans that curiosity can sometimes be really dangerous. In Pandora, she was curious to know what was in the box, but she wasn’t allowed to open but she did, and there were all kinds of evil things (and hope) that came out from the box. People then suffered but had hope. This prove that curiosity was dangerous to people. Also in Orphan Boy, the old man really wanted to know how the orphan boy did all the work using his magic so he spied on the orphan boy, even though he told him not to. The orphan boy saw him and the trust between them broke. After this, the curiosity destroyed their relationship and the trust, and the old man was punished. He lost everything. This proves that curiosity was dangerous. However, in real life it isn't that bad it leads us to creative ideas.

My Name

I was jealous of other peoples names when I was a little boy. My name was hard for foreign people to pronounce and also uncommon. When I was in 5th grade people made fun of my name sometimes by calling me You Suck That really drove me bananas. People insults dont really bother me anymore.

When I was born my dad called a name specialist in Korea to pick out a name for me. He checked my birth day, the star I was born under and even my brothers name, Yun Jo. He finally generated two names Yun Sik and Yun Seok. My dad did not like the name Yun Sik because it sounded like I was sick. However, the name Yun Seok had a powerful sound. I was meaningful, too, so my dad decided to choose it.

There is a story behind my last name. A long time ago in Sin Ra, Korea, the people had six surnames and one of them was Seol, my last name. Yun means bright and Seok means clever. I like my name because it has special significance and I hope I will live up to my name.

Common Elements of Creation Myths

Since the beginning of humans, people have wondered about how the universe was created. As a result, early humans made up myths about how the world was made. Surprisingly, many of these myths had common elements. They are gods who leave, humans from mud and clay and explanation of natural phenomena. All countries had their own creation myths with common elements. Even though humans lived far apart and did not communicate with each other, their creation myths had many common elements. One of the common elements is that humans were created from mud and clay. For example, in Chinese myths, Nuwa, the half-dragon goddess created man from clay near the Yellow River. The Mayans believed that their gods had created the first humans out of mud. However, the gods were disappointed by how weak those humans were, so they created a new race made from corn. Even though these two peoples lived far apart, it is interesting that they had similar elements in their creation myths. Another common element is that the gods leave after creating the world. Phan-Ku, from the Chinese myths, and Hwan-Ung, from the Korean myths, both left the world after they had created it and made it a comfortable place. Phan-Ku and Hwan-Ung both died after they ruled the world for a long time. This is more evidence that people in different places shared the same ideas. One more similar element is that many myths explain natural phenomena. For example, Chinese myths explain how thunder, oceans, lakes and other natural phenomena came to be. Maori myths also illustrate how floods and rain came to exist. Most myths explain nature. It is really surprising that people with different languages who could not communicate with each other had similar elements in their myths. These examples show how people who lived very far apart and spoke different languages had similar elements in their creation myths.

Spring Break

Spring break was the most exciting break I have ever had in Malaysia. I didn’t go anywhere during the summer and winter vacation. However, I went to Club Med in Cherating with my family. Some of the pupils in my school also went to Club Med on this spring break.

My family and I left at about 2pm. My father drove three and a half hours to get there. On the way, we stopped at one rest stop and I bought a Chelsea key chain. I was so glad that we stopped there. The three and a half hour journey was so boring. I didn’t have any thing to do so I just sat in the car and looked out at the view. There were many trees, lakes and rivers. There were different species of trees. They grow very well here because Malaysia is tropical country.

At last, we arrived at Club Med. The first thing I saw was the enormous resort that was beautifully built. After my father got our room keys, we checked out the different places were located on the way to our room There were many places that I could play or use like the swimming pool, drink bar, rest room (there are many air-conditioners) and the Password (A room where only teenagers can go in) Rest room is for the people who are exhausted as swimming or other activities or people who want to read or watch television, come inside that room to relax and rest.

There were many activities to participate in. However, there was not enough time for me to do all of them. On the first day, we couldn’t do anything because we were late. In spite of that, we managed to watch the circus performed by members in Club Med. We also enjoyed free drinks at the bar.

The next morning, I played in the soccer tournament. I was a striker and I scored 3 goals. I was really proud of myself as I was the youngest player of all. The other players were adults. My team won by 3:2. I had an incredible time. I also tried archery. I had never done this before but it was very enjoyable. The only bad thing about archery was that we get injuries such as bruise when we shoot the arrows incorrectly.

I was so sad when it was time to leave. I really enjoyed my vacation. I have never had so much fun in my life so I wish my father will take us there again or maybe, to a better place.

After a 4 days and 3 nights’ long vacation, I just stayed at home. I also had to have tuition every day and had to study a lot. Subjects that I studied were Math, English and Korean (my own language). However, it was fine that I had to study because I was able to play too. I was glad that I went to Cub Med. Finally, spring break was over and I could meet my friends again in school.

Environmental Factors: Important for Human Survival?

Imagine that you are living 200 years in the future. Earth has been invaded by a powerful empire, Akkadiana, but you manage to escape with several friends in a small space ship. Your space ship lands on an unknown planet, but you find that the geography and the environment are just like Earth. The only difference is there are no cities, towns or villages and you and your friends are the only humans here.
1) Think about what you have learned in Chapters 4-7 before you begin this blog.
2) Identify 3 environmental factors you would look for before you build your own small village.

–I would look for trees, river and plain.
3) Write a short explanation for each environmental factor describing why they are important for the survival of your village.

Maybe…
First, I would look for rivers because I think that the river is very important to us. We cannot survive without water. The river provides us fresh water. We need fresh water for many reasons. We can use this to cook, bathe, drink and was our clothes. We can also get food from the river because we can catch fish and others animals.

Then I would look for trees near the river. I need trees to make things like tools, furniture and houses. I would also collect the branches to make a fire. Another good thing about trees is that they can protect us from the Sun.

Lastly, I would look for a plain that is near the river, so that I can grow crops. Plains are the only places that we can grow crops. Plains near the river usually have fertile soil so my crops can grow well. I can also get water easily from the river to water my crops.

Is my country a civilization?

My country, Korea has several civilizations. We have social structure, stable food supply, technology, art, writing and government.
Social Structure: Koreans have different levels depend how people work. If there is a person who is CEO of a famous company, then Koreans says he is in high level. All the people in Korea can choose their own religion and government. They can speak their suggestion to the government. For example, when there is no traffic light on the road. we can suggest.
Stable Food Supply: Most people in Korea get food even though they don't grow farm because people from countryside grow crops so they pass crops to city and sell it in market. However, in modern days, We buy fast food like hamburger and pizza.
Technology: We have more advanced technology than before. We have advanced technology such as cellphone, computer, television and other machines. We buy really cheap cell phones but abilities of those cell phones are quite advanced. Abilities of cell phone is online games, movies, cameras and internet.
Writing: In the past Koreans used a Chinese writing. We didn’t have our own writing. However, the great king Se Jong from 13 century decided to invented a new writing. The writing is called [Hoon-Min-jeong-Eum]. There are 24 letters.
The Arts: We (Koreans) have our own arts. We have our national costume, music and traditional dances. Our national costume is the Han-Bok which is really colorful and beautiful. We have our own traditional musical instruments like Korean lute and Korean drum. Also, our traditional dances are the Tal-Dance and the kang-kang-sul-lae. The dancers wear masks in Tal dance and they dance without any embarrassment. The kang-kang-sul-lae is beautiful dance.
Government: South Korea has democratic government. All the people can choose their own government. South Korens chose a new leader last year. His name is Myung-Park. Lee.

Warm Winter Vacation

I had a strangest vacation ever. My father had a bad disease so my parents went to korea to have a father’s surgery. My brother and I had to stay in KL.
We both had hard time in the food supply but luckily, mother called neighbors to get the meals. My brother and I had tution everyday so it was little hard to have lunch and dinner on time. However, we had a fine time. I also slept over in K –Joon’s house I played with his dog, Lucy. I think it likes me.
After my parent came back, they had fine faces. My father was completely healed. I didn’t see my father’s surgery scar because I was scared. I asked he is okay or not several times. I heard stories how my father was in hospital. It was terrible. I felt sorry and I thought I have to do better to my parents.
They also bought me bought me a new soccer shoes and my aunt bought me a hoodie. My father and I exercise every day to keep our healthy body. I always wear with my soccer shoes when I exercise.
I went to timesquare with my friends. They invited me. Timesquare is indoor amusement park. We almost played all of machines. My favorite machine is bumper car. It was really good so I played like 7times. I also played rollercoaster. It was totally amazing and scary.
This vacation was really special and strange. I think I can’t forget this vacation.
