The main theme of Pandora and Orphan boy, Curiosity

The main theme of Pandora, a Greek myth, and Orphan Boy, an African myth, is curiosity. These myths warn humans that curiosity can sometimes be really dangerous. In Pandora, she was curious to know what was in the box, but she wasn’t allowed to open but she did, and there were all kinds of evil things (and hope) that came out from the box. People then suffered but had hope. This prove that curiosity was dangerous to people. Also in Orphan Boy, the old man really wanted to know how the orphan boy did all the work using his magic so he spied on the orphan boy, even though he told him not to. The orphan boy saw him and the trust between them broke. After this, the curiosity destroyed their relationship and the trust, and the old man was punished. He lost everything. This proves that curiosity was dangerous. However, in real life it isn't that bad it leads us to creative ideas.

My Name

I was jealous of other peoples names when I was a little boy. My name was hard for foreign people to pronounce and also uncommon. When I was in 5th grade people made fun of my name sometimes by calling me You Suck That really drove me bananas. People insults dont really bother me anymore.

When I was born my dad called a name specialist in Korea to pick out a name for me. He checked my birth day, the star I was born under and even my brothers name, Yun Jo. He finally generated two names Yun Sik and Yun Seok. My dad did not like the name Yun Sik because it sounded like I was sick. However, the name Yun Seok had a powerful sound. I was meaningful, too, so my dad decided to choose it.

There is a story behind my last name. A long time ago in Sin Ra, Korea, the people had six surnames and one of them was Seol, my last name. Yun means bright and Seok means clever. I like my name because it has special significance and I hope I will live up to my name.

Common Elements of Creation Myths

Since the beginning of humans, people have wondered about how the universe was created. As a result, early humans made up myths about how the world was made. Surprisingly, many of these myths had common elements. They are gods who leave, humans from mud and clay and explanation of natural phenomena. All countries had their own creation myths with common elements. Even though humans lived far apart and did not communicate with each other, their creation myths had many common elements. One of the common elements is that humans were created from mud and clay. For example, in Chinese myths, Nuwa, the half-dragon goddess created man from clay near the Yellow River. The Mayans believed that their gods had created the first humans out of mud. However, the gods were disappointed by how weak those humans were, so they created a new race made from corn. Even though these two peoples lived far apart, it is interesting that they had similar elements in their creation myths. Another common element is that the gods leave after creating the world. Phan-Ku, from the Chinese myths, and Hwan-Ung, from the Korean myths, both left the world after they had created it and made it a comfortable place. Phan-Ku and Hwan-Ung both died after they ruled the world for a long time. This is more evidence that people in different places shared the same ideas. One more similar element is that many myths explain natural phenomena. For example, Chinese myths explain how thunder, oceans, lakes and other natural phenomena came to be. Maori myths also illustrate how floods and rain came to exist. Most myths explain nature. It is really surprising that people with different languages who could not communicate with each other had similar elements in their myths. These examples show how people who lived very far apart and spoke different languages had similar elements in their creation myths.
