Don Williams, Jr.

I was jealous of other peoples’ names when I was a little boy. My name was hard for foreign people to pronounce and also uncommon. When I was in 5th grade people made fun of my name sometimes by calling me “You Suck” That really drove me bananas. People’ insults don’t really bother me anymore.
When I was born my dad called a name specialist in Korea to pick out a name for me. He checked my birth day, the star I was born under and even my brother’s name, Yun Jo. He finally generated two names Yun Sik and Yun Seok. My dad did not like the name Yun Sik because it sounded like I was sick. However, the name Yun Seok had a powerful sound. I was meaningful, too, so my dad decided to choose it.
There is a story behind my last name. A long time ago in Sin Ra, Korea, the people had six surnames and one of them was Seol, my last name. ’Yun’ means bright and ‘Seok’ means clever. I like my name because it has special significance and I hope I will live up to my name.
